In the wake of the new decision by the Ministry of Human Resource Development which states that Hindi will no longer be compulsory in non-Hindi speaking states of Tamil Nadu, many people have positively reacted and welcomed the decision. One amongst them happens to be legendary music maestro, AR Rahman.

The Oscar-winning composer has given a thumbs up to this move and tweeted, "Beautiful decision. Hindi is not compulsory in Tamil Nadu... The draft has been edited."

For those who don’t know, a huge outcry spread in several states of Tamil Nadu when the National Education Policy draft made by the Human Resource Development Ministry made Hindi and English languages compulsory in schools in non-Hindi speaking states. This decision didn’t go well with several people who made their displeasure evident on social media.

Seeing the massive outrage, the HRD ministry brought in changes to the draft and Hindi was made no longer compulsory in non-Hindi speaking states. The new draft reads, "In keeping with the principle of flexibility, students who wish to change one or more of the three languages they are studying may do so in Grade 6 or Grade 7, so long as they are able to still demonstrate proficiency in three languages...."

While AR Rahman welcomed this move, he had even reacted when the first draft was made. The iconic music composer had shared video of a Tamil song sung by a Punjabi musician and captioned the post as, “Tamil is spreading in Punjab”.

The music composer had made headlines earlier this year when he was accused of forcing his daughter to wear a niqab at the 10 years celebration of Slumdog Millionaire. He was massively trolled back then after the pictures went viral. Rahman hit back at the trolls with a post that read, “The precious ladies of my family Khatija ,Raheema and Sairaa with NitaAmbaniji #freedomtochoose”.
