I am not surprised that Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s wife has decided to call it a truce in their stormy separation that occupied ample media space through a large part of 2020. What surprised me is how much dirty linen was washed in public.
Some of the accusations that Mrs Siddiqui made against her husband and his family are of a very serious nature. And they are not easy to write off as a momentary outburst in the heat of the moment. How does one erase all that bitterness and start afresh? Maybe one member of the marital alliance decides to move on. But how does that convenient malleability in the marriage make the other party in the alliance forget all the ugly things that were said in the public domain?
Throughout the course of the savage tirade that he was subjected to, Nawazuddin held his peace. We spoke on several occasions during this period when Mrs Siddiqui levelled innumerable unmentionable allegations against her husband. Not once did Nawaz make any mention of his marital crisis. Once I brought it up gently asking if he’s coping well.
“Sir, the children are my priority. They always will be. The rest is of no importance,” he told me.
Now, when Nawaz is playing the perfect Daddy by looking after the kids while their mom recovers from the Covid-19, the Missus is impressed. She wants to give their marriage another chance. I am not sure what Nawaz’s response to this generous offer would be. But I do know he loves his daughter and son too much to let them suffer the consequences of a fractured marriage.
