This isn’t the first time that Dutt has tried contesting for elections. Way back in 2009, the actor was contesting for Lok Sabha elections from Samajwadi Party, but had to withdraw as the court denied suspending his conviction. In April 1993, Sanjay Dutt was arrested under the provisions of the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities Prevention Act. Then, on May 5 1993, he was granted bail by Supreme Court, but on July 1994, his bail was cancelled and he was arrested again.
A News18 report states, “There are speculations that the Aam Aadmi Party's rebel leader and poet Kumar Vishwas will be in the field on Congress ticket. On the other hand, SP-BSP combine can play the stakes on Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt to give them a hit. However, both of these reports have not been officially confirmed.”
Work wise, a movie on Sanjay Dutt’s life titled Sanju was released last year and it did quite well commercially. The actor will be seen in Abhishek Varman’s Kalank and Mahesh Bhatt’s Sadak 2 next.
