American Rapper T.I was criticised widely for discussing his daughter's virginity in public. While on Ladies Like Us Podcast, T.I had stated that he takes his 18-year-old daughter, Deyjah Harris, for a hymen test every year and he gets her to sign a document that allows the doctor to share the test results with him. This called for a lot of a backlash as many found his statements disgusting. Now, he has opened up on the controversy and said that his statements were misconstrued.
During a Red Table Talk episode, he stated that his statements were taken out of the proportion and misconceived by many. He started off saying, " I came to clear up any misconceptions that have been surrounding how we interact and parent and what is appropriate and inappropriate. I think all of this surrounds a conversation that I was having in a very joking manner, when asked how do I deal with parenting in this day and age. And so I just began to, you know, from a place of truth, I began to embellish and exaggerate."
Stating that he now understands how sensitive the subject is, he said, "However, my intentions I think have been terribly misconstrued and misconceived. Let me go set this record straight, I never said I was in any exam room, that is an assumption, that is a falsity. I never said that it was being done present day as an 18-year-old...and I never said that her mother wasn't present. Her mom was present every time." That statement that led to the outrage was about T.I telling his daughter's doctor that she doesn't indulge in many activities and with pride, he stated that at the age of 18, his daughter's hymen is still intact.
