The Defence Ministry’s letter which has been marked to the Information and Technology, and the Information and Broadcasting ministries was issued to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) on July 27, stating that producers of movies or web series based on Army should take a no-objection certificate (NOC) before telecasting them. CBFC which functions under the Information and Broadcasting Ministry does not have the mandate to regulate content on video-streaming platforms, and its role is restricted to films that are released in theatres and television satellite channels. Whereas content on OTT platforms is, in fact, not regulated by any specific body. The platforms are still in the process of finalising a self-regulatory code for the content they stream, despite a rift in the industry.
