With Calendar Girls you make your transition from modelling to films...
I have been modelling in Mumbai for the last 18 months. Madhur was always on my wish list of directors. I got a call from his team and I was extremely interested.

Tell us something about your audition.
I wasn't too comfortable during the audition. As a model, I'm used to a still camera. Madhur's team was using a moving one.
And then?
I knew it was a now-or-never situation for me. I was asked to do one of Kangana Ranaut scenes from Fashion. After that, I was also asked to enact a Kareena Kapoor scene from Heroine, and that one was tough (pauses).

Go on...
I was selected in 2 weeks. When I went to Madhur Bhandarkar's office to sign the papers, I was told that I was the first girl to have been cast. My happiness knew no bounds.
Tell us about your role in the film.
(Laughs) I have been instructed not to talk about it.

My information says that you play an IPL girl...
Okay, I play an IPL girl.

Who is your character modelled upon? Madhur has a habit of lifting real life stories...
(Interrupts) I have no idea who I am playing.
Madhur didn't tell you?
No.

Did you sense that he was drawing inspiration from a particular character?
Yes, definitely. He was quite enjoying the fact that he was bringing a real episode to life but at the same time, he was very serious. I felt he wants to convey something to the audience through my track and character.

Hmm... Do you follow the IPL?
Occasionally, only when some controversy happens.

Did you get along with the other girls in the film?
We all have different tracks. So our paths didn't cross much. We shot for just a song sequence together in Mauritius- and that was fun.

Given the title of the film, have you girls gone very bold in your dressing?
We haven't worn anything very bold. You have seen other girls wear such outfits in the past. You have seen Deepika Padukone wearing a bikini. You have seen Priyanka Chopra and Kareena Kapoor in swimsuits. We too have worn swimsuits. The movie is story-driven, it's not about bikinis and bodies.

How did your parents react to you becoming an actress?
My parents are fine with everything that I want to do in life.

Did they warn you with horror stories of Bollywood?
No. They knew that I had handled modelling well, and hence will not have a tough time in Bollywood.

Did you ever feel that someone was making a pass at you?
I have heard stories of the casting couch but fortunately, I have not had any such experience. Calendar Girls is a good film and Madhur Bhandarkar has always been a friend and mentor.

Are you saying you knew him before Calendar Girls?
He knew me. I would work as showstoppers at fashion events and he would know me by name. We often exchanged texts like "Oh, amazing show today", and stuff like that.

Tell us a little about your life before your modelling days.
I was a state level volleyball player based in Kolkata. I represented my state 18 times, I am a gold medallist. But pray, why are players treated so badly?

Elaborate...
We wouldn't be given proper accommodation, we were not take care of. There were too many issues. I thought to myself, 'Which is the job that will treat me like a queen?' That's how modelling happened to me (pauses).

Are you dating someone?
I am single and happy.

But you're surrounded by good-looking men....
I haven't found the right person. Think of it, I don't have time for a relationship. I'm not the sort who would neglect her lover. I am sure the right guy is out there and he will come at the right time.

After Calendar Girls, do you have any movies lined up?
I am getting film offers, but I shall wait till Calendar Girls before I take them up. Frankly, I am not yet getting the kind of films I want to do.
