Making a period film isn’t a cakewalk but director Ashutosh Gowariker considers it his forte and is back after Mohenjo Daro to bring us a story on the third battle of Panipat. The film titled Panipat stars Arjun Kapoor, Kriti Sanon and Sanjay Dutt in main roles. Ahead of its big screen release on Dec 6, we spoke to Arjun, Kriti and the filmmaker at length.
We asked Ashutosh Gowariker if he ever had any sort of fears or inhibitions as he recreated a historical to which the director stated that he always believes in keeping an authentic approach and doesn’t believe in distorting history. Next, we were keen to know how did he think of casting Arjun, Kriti and Sanjay for their respective roles. WATCH THE VIDEO BELOW:
About Dutt, we further prodded Gowariker that considering his second innings in films didn’t turn out as expected, what prompted him to cast Dutt in the menacing role of Ahmad Shah Abdali. He replied that he doesn’t measure one’s success and failure through a magnifying glass. On the other hand, Arjun stated that it’s unfair to cast someone on the basis of his last film’s fate at the box-office.
Arjun and Kriti were all praises for Dutt. Kriti added that she felt disappointed because she didn’t have any scene with him in the film. Next, we pointed out how the wives of warriors in films are usually perceived to be the silent supporters to their husbands and if it’s the same with Kriti’s character of Parvati in Panipat to which they both disagreed.
Then, they spoke about how it went for them in terms of getting into those heavy costumes and of course, how could we miss asking Kapoor about going bald for this role. Ashutosh was praises for his lead star as he had complete belief that Arjun would go to any extent to make his character look convincing.
We also played rapid fire with the actors and tested their knowledge around their filmmaker. Watch the video above to know who won the round.
