Pink Girl Kirti Kulhari: No Problem With Lovemaking And Kissing, I Am A Shameless Actor
Kirti Kulhari has been doing the news since yesterday all over again for the right reasons. She was brilliant as Falak Ali in Pink and now Madhur Bhandarkar has signed her for his ambitious next titled Indu Sarkar.

SpotboyE.com had a telephonic chat with Kirti this afternoon. Excerpts from the conversation that transpired:

I heard that you are fasting today on Karva Chauth...
Well, I am married and I wouldn't like to hide my shaadi if you ask.

Tell me about it...
It was a love marriage. I am married to a guy called Saahir Sehgal. We tied the knot on June 24, 2016- soon after the Pink post-production was over. The wedding took place in Bhutan. I am a private person but at the same time very open, what I mean is I don't hide anything about myself if somebody wants to know but I won't go out of my way to make statements, you'll never have me putting up pictures on Facebook and Instagram trying to tell people anything indirectly.

Hmmm... has life changed after Pink?
It has changed drastically. People recognise me wherever I go.

Honestly I am not surprised to see you in Indu Sarkar because soon after he saw Pink, Madhur Bhandarkar had told me that you were 'Wow' in it...
He had spoken to me about Indu Sarkar when I had invited him for a screening of Pink- but we hadn't locked it then. I got very excited in that little chat with him and I wanted to work with him 'coz he makes essentially women-centric films. Pink recognised me as a good actor in your face, that's what i am most thrilled about. That 'in your face' bit is very important. I was always wondering: Will Pink give me bigger and better offers? Will it take me really ahead? It has happened and I am in very happy space now.

Were you in the running for Calendar Girls?
No. We were talking essentially during the time when he was supposed to make Madamji (a co-production with Priyanka Chopra with Priyanka in the lead, which didn't take off).

Indu Sarkar is set against the backdrop of Emergency (1975-77). How are you getting ready for your part?
Madhur and his team of writers have already worked extensively, so I am not short on reading material on Emergency. Add this to my plan of seeing a few documentaries which are available on the Internet. I am also excited for one more reason.

Which is?

I play a girl who stammers. I don't remember any film in Bbollywood where stammering has been depicted in a right manner. I plan to meet a couple of speech therapists soon. Indu Sarkar goes on floors next month.

Shahid Kapoor did a fab job with lisp in Kaminey...
With lisp yes, but stammering is one thing which has still not been done correctly in Bollywood.

Anybody in your circle who has this speech impediment?
I have met people who stammer, but no- I don't have any friend /relative who stammers (pauses).

Go on...
Stammering embarrasses and humiliates a lot. It is like 'let me rather not talk'. So, Indu Sarkar has faced a lot of rejection in her life which leads her to giving vent to her thoughts in the form of poetry. Later, she gets married. Through the film, she finds her voice. My role in Madhur's film is tougher than my role in Shoojit's film. Pink had 3 girls and Mr Bachchan carried a large burden on his shoulders.

Have you seen all films of Madhur?
No- but I am most impressed by Chandni Bar, Page 3 and Fashion. I love the realism he throws in every movie.

How are you manoeuvring your way in Bollywood?

I have got a lot of calls and messages acknowledging me in Pink. I am not making an extra effort to go and meet people. I don't believe in 'chandni raat hai, jo karna hai aaj kar lo kyunki kal ho na ho'. I would love to take up one film at a time.

The interview will be incomplete if I don't ask you about your take on lovemaking and kissing scenes which have become so common in Bollywood nowadays?
I am absolutely open to them. Of course I need to be convinced that they have not been inserted for just publicity and titillation. I am an actor and I have to be besharam, I cannot have inhibitions. I am a shameless actor and would like to remain that way. I will do everything that takes to make my characters on screen believable.
