First Day First Show: Shah Rukh Khan and Alia Bhatt Beat The Box-Office Blues With Dear Zindagi

Shah Rukh Khan and Alia Bhatt starrer Dear Zindagi released this morning and after two weeks of empty theatres, we saw long lines at the ticket counters. The first show was jam packed in many suburban theatres of Mumbai.

This is great news as the last two weeks registered shockingly low numbers with three films tanking, Rock On 2, Force 2 and Tum Bin 2, tanking at the box-office. All the makers had blamed PM Narendra Modi's demonetization move for this catastrophe.

Theatres saw a 73% occupancy this morning and the audiences gave Dear Zindagi, a thumbs up.SRK's new avatar and Alia's performance got the audiences clapping. A lot of viewers drew parallels to her turn in other critically acclaimed performances in Highway (2014) and Udta Punjab (2016). Cameos by Ali Zafar, Kunal Kapoor, Angad Bedi also got audience appreciation.

Above all everyone coming out of the theatres lauded the direction and screenplay by Gauri Shinde. Well, this is another light-hearted yet moving film from the ace filmmaker after English Vinglish.

King Khan's last release this year, Fan, didn't do any dhamaka at the box office even after getting good reviews. Alia on the other hand had two hits in the year with Kapoor & Sons and Udta Punjab. Let's wait and see what this film's fate turns out to be at the box office.
