Airlift beats Kya Kool Hain Hum 3

Airlift has beaten Kya Kool Hain Hum 3. The sex comedy has not worked. We wonder what lies in store for the next sex comedy, err porncom, Mastizaade.

SpotboyE spoke to the Bollywood trade. This is what they had to say:

Rajesh Thadani, Distributor:
I think it's Airlift all the way. The film has worked well on word of mouth publicity. It's a well-made film but it doesn't look likely that it will click too well with the smaller centres. It will remain afloat in the urban centres. Kya Kool Hain Hum 3 on the other hand just didn't work. It lacks story and is piled up with vulgarity which doesn't appeal to people any more, it's been made at a cheap price so it might just recover costs.

Amod Mehra, Trade analyst: Airlift is one of the better made films in a very long time. It's a niche film, a doc-drama, unlike Baby which had espionage at the helm. That's the only negative aspect of the film which might hinder its run at the smaller centres. But Akshay Kumar has had a couple of good films so far in the last 18 months and this is probably the best in that lot. It has swollen through the weekend and will go very far because there's no good film before the second week of February. I won't be surprised if it makes Rs 100 crore. The good part is it has not been made on an expensive budget. So, it will make a lot of money for its producers.
As for Kya Kool Hain Hum 3, it was full of vulgarity and sleazy jokes. Such films have stopped finding an audience, even in smaller centres. After a point, people get fed up. This week there will be another one: Mastizaade. I just hope people don't start comparing which of the two sleazy films was worse.

Manoj Desai, Exhibitor: People have loved Airlift but they have not liked Kya Kool Hain Hum 3. Even college students haven't turned up much for Kya Kool, whereas Airlift has had a lot of family audience.
