Aligarh disappoints at the box-office

Hansal Mehta’s Aligarh won favourable reviews all over, but that hasn’t translated into strong box-office numbers. Like most of Mehta’s films, the Manoj Bajpayee-Rajkummar Rao starrer saw dismal collections on its Day One. The film could not even cross the 50-lakh mark, garnering mere Rs. 31 lakh.
Does Aligarh’s poor box-office performance have something to do with its minimal publicity? Or is it due to the lack of stars in the film?
