The disappointing opening of Priyanka Chopra’s Jai GangaaJal comes as a shock. After all, with the current surge in PeeCee’s popularity, one would have expected the audience to flock to theatres. However, the opening day told a different story altogether – the film’s collections managed to scrape past the 4-crore mark.
Did director Prakash Jha go wrong by casting himself in a role that had as much screen time as Priyanka’s, if not more? Or was it something else?
Whatever be the reason, the movie has not gone down well with the junta. One may argue that Sonam Kapoor’s Neerja too had started on a low note. However, Neerja enjoyed strong word of mouth and eventually picked up steam. That doesn’t seem likely for this cop drama.
A turnaround of sorts is required for the film to become a hit. Nothing is impossible in Bollywood but it’s an uphill task for Jai GangaaJal from here.
