Sonali Bendre is one of the few actresses of her generation that have aged like fine wine. Being one of the most sought-after actresses from the 90s in the Hindi entertainment industry, she has garnered a huge fan base which showers her with love and adoration from all corners. Currently basking in the success of her web series The Broken News season 2, which streams on Zee5, she has been busy promoting the show. In a recent interview with Hauterrfly, Bendre recalled how she was often body-shamed by the producers, during the initial phase of her career.

Talking about the same, the 49-year-old actress recalled how when she first started working in the entertainment industry actresses weren’t skinny. Producers would often prefer heroines who would be ‘curvaceous and voluptuous’. This led to many of them body-shaming her, since she was skinny. They would often urge her to eat more. Quoted by the Free Press Journal, Sonali shared, “When I came in the industry, heroines didn't used to be this skinny. Every producer was trying to fatten me up all the time. They would just tell me to ‘eat eat eat bahut patli hai (she is too thin).' They wanted curves. At that time, they wanted women who were curvaceous and voluptuous and who had curls in their hair. In an earlier interview, the Hum Saath Saath Hain actress opened up about her Hindi film industry journey. She expressed how she never really thought that she waon on top of her game. She added, “When I got into the industry, I was not trained as an actor. I was not trained as a dancer. I was just fumbling and learning on the job. That kept me nervous and I never really enjoyed the journey. When you're on top of the game, and you're enjoying the journey. You're enjoying what you're doing on a day-to-day basis. I was too scared.”
