'Rakshak Is In The Space Of Self-Made Heroes Like Batman, Iron Man, Daredevil,' Reveals Mumbai Saga Director Sanjay Gupta- EXCLUSIVE
Mumbai Saga director Sanjay Gupta worked on multiple scripts during the Coronavirus-induced lockdown, among which were Shootout 3 and the screen adaptation of the Rakshak comic franchise. Talking to Spotboye, the director shares an update about the two projects.

On Rakshak, Sanjay says, “It is extremely exciting to attempt this genre, but our hero is not a superhero with superpowers. He is in the space of heroes like Batman, Iron Man or Daredevil, who create their own power. He is not a Superman or a Spiderman, but more in the vigilante and believable space.”

The director shares that the work on Rakshak’s script is underway. “I was working on it simultaneously during the lockdown along with Shootout 3, and the work is still going on. To create such a world is challenging but it has a very big canvas so it’s exciting to work upon,” he says.

As for Shootout 3, Sanjay informs that the scripting of the film is complete. “The progress of it will depend a lot on how the people receive Mumbai Saga. We are in a time when it is difficult to decide on a course of action in the longer run,” he asserts. Ask him if there has been any decision on the casting of the film and he shrugs it off, “Right now, no actor has even been thought of as I always write my films without keeping any actor in mind as it wrongfully influences you as a writer.”

There were reports that Sanjay wants to sign his Mumbai Saga actor and friend John Abraham for Rakshak and even the actor is interested in playing the part, but Sanjay refutes any such speculation. “I don’t think about actors while writing my script and it is still being written, so there is no one approached yet. As for John, if it was in my hand, I would make all of my films with him or Emraan Hashmi or all the other actors I am happy to be working with,” he concludes.
