After Deepika Padukone's Recent Horrifying Experience With The Mob, We Have One Request, Be Fans And Not Fangs-OPINION
A video that went Viral (posted by a well-known photographer by that name) shows Deepika Padukone caught in a mob frenzy that not only defies every guideline of  COVID conduct but also belittles the sacred star-fan relationship, confirming that social media has left no room for us or hero-worship.

I still remember how I was trembling when I met my idol Lata Mangeshkar for the first time. Now it is not the fans, it’s the stars who tremble. We can see Deepika discernibly shaken as mobs crowd around her as she makes her way to her car. Someone even yanks her purse out of her shoulder probably trying to make some good money while the mobocracy rules. Thankfully she pulls her purse back in time.

It is an appalling sight. And one that shows how deeply we need to condemn this kind of unruly behaviour. Fans can be a very unreasonable breed. They won’t allow a star his or her privacy even when he or she is with family or in a distressful situation. Shatrughan Sinha, who had long time back told me how mobs were shouting  ‘Where is Reena  Roy’ when he had come home to Patna for his mother’s funeral.

My plea to the fan is, be kind to your idols. Don’t be fans with fangs.  The precious autograph has been replaced by the ubiquitous selfie. Don’t let the selfie make you so selfish that you are blind to a star’s discomfort.
