Following the release of a private advisory, the Indian government has now issued a public notice in response to the alarming increase in the spread of deepfake content across social media platforms, notably featuring individuals like Rashmika Mandanna and Katrina Kaif. The government is resolute in its stance against any form of impersonation and is taking the matter seriously. As per an announcement from PIB India, it has been emphasized that all social media intermediaries must diligently strive to identify and address misinformation and deepfake content. This includes taking measures to detect and handle information that contravenes established rules, regulations, and user agreements. The Pushpa star was vocal enough to raise the issue and even got support from Amitabh Bachchan. On the other hand, Katrina Kaif hasn't reacted to the matter yet. However, sources revealed that after this govt advisory, the morphed deepfake content of these actresses was taken down from the internet on immediate effect.


Union Minister of State for Skill Development & Entrepreneurship and Electronics & IT Shri Rajeev Chandrasekhar concluded and said, “Our Government takes the responsibility of safety & trust of all nagriks very very seriously, and more so about our children and women who are targeted by such content. For those who find themselves impacted by deepfakes, I strongly encourage you to file First Information Reports (FIRs) at your nearest police station and avail the remedies provided under the Information Technology (IT) rules, 2021.”
