Akshay Kumar Is “Disappointed” With Citizenship Controversy; Says, “Never Needed To Prove My Love For India”
The Lok Sabha Elections of 2019, saw a huge turnout of Bollywood celebrities. However, Akshay Kumar was missing in action. When the actor was asked at the screening of Blank, about not casting his vote, he evaded the question by just replying, “Chaliye beta, chaliye.” That indeed also disappointed several people as he’s known to support social causes through the cinema that he does.

Soon, an old revelation made by the actor during Toilet-Ek Prem Katha promotions came to the forefront wherein he had spoken about having an honorary citizenship of Canada. However, his name was nowhere to be seen in the coveted list and that again led to a chain of reactions. Now, the actor has released an official statement and expressed his displeasure around the entire controversy.

Wrote Akshay, “I really don't understand the unwarranted interest and negativity about my citizenship. I have never hidden or denied that i hold a Canadian passport. It is also equally true that I have not visited Canada in the last seven years. I work in India, and pay all my taxes in India.

While all these years, I have never needed to prove my love for India to anyone, I find it disappointing that my citizenship issue is constantly dragged into needless controversy, a matter that is personal, legal, non-political, and of no consequence to others.
Lastly, I would like to continue contributing in my small way to the causes that I believe in and make India stronger and stronger.”

On the work front, Akshay will be seen in Good News opposite Kareena Kapoor Khan, Housefull 4 that stars Kriti Sanon, Bobby Deol, Riteish Deshmukh, Kriti Kharbanda and Pooja Hegde, Sooryavanshi along side Katrina Kaif and Laaxmi Bomb.
