Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar is currently busy promoting his upcoming film Bell Bottom in full swing. The actor is gearing up for the release scheduled on August 19. He also has a lot of other interesting projects in the pipeline. One of them is Sooryavanshi, directed by Rohit Shetty. The release of the film was stalled owing to the pandemic and restrictions. It was reported that makers wanted the movie to be released only in theatres, which have still not started functioning in full strength in the country.
Akshay Kumar's fans are still waiting for an update on Sooryavanshi, and it looks like they may have to wait a little more. The actor had an interesting answer when he was asked about the movie. In a recent interview with Hindustan Times, Akshay Kumar said, “I’ll have to redirect this question to two people, God and Rohit Shetty (laughs). You can try your luck with either of them and in case you do have an update, let me also know.” Sooryavanshi also stars Katrina Kaif in the lead.
Akshay Kumar added, “But on a serious note, with BellBottom, we’ve taken a step ahead of returning to the big screen, hopefully, the results will give others confidence and they will follow suit.”
Yes, Bell Bottom is releasing in theatres. Akshay Kumar, when questioned about the theatrical release of the film Bell Bottom and that happening at a time when the theatres haven’t opened to full capacity, said, “It did perturb me earlier, but with time I’ve learnt one thing, the less time you spend mulling over things which aren’t in your control, the happier you’ll be.” Also Read: Akshay Kumar: I Am Not An Actor Who Takes A Couple Of Months To Get Into The Character, I Start A Film, Finish It And Move On
Akshay explained how in an ideal scenario, theatres would’ve reopened; however, the situation is not the same currently. He said, “We had two choices, either to sulk and postpone again or to go ahead and let the film decide its fate. So taking control of what is in our hands, we chose the latter.”
Akshay Kumar also revealed that it was him who recommended actress Lara Dutta for the role of former prime minister Indira Gandhi in Bell Bottom. The actor said that when director Ranjeet Tewari narrated the story to him, he knew the character of Indira Gandhi would be tricky. He shared, “He’d (Ranjeet Tewari) shown me some archived footage of Mrs. Gandhi, she had a certain body language and gravitas which I felt Lara could bring to the character and look, what an amazing job she has done.”
The actor also congratulated the make-up artiste and his team for doing an amazing job, and completely transforming Lara's look, for which she has been receiving a lot of compliments.
‘Bell Bottom’ stars Akshay Kumar, Lara Dutta, Huma Qureshi and Vaani Kapoor. The plot of the film is based on the true events of India’s first covert operation.
