Amitabh Bachchan’s granddaughter Navya Naveli Nanda took to her social media to laud Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman as she defended a female journalist during Budget 2021 press conference
Amitabh Bachchan’s granddaughter Navya Naveli Nanda made the headlines a few days ago for her Instagram live video, in which she talked about women being undermined in a male-dominated industry. In January, she also launched a new initiative- Project Naveli- towards women empowerment in India. Navya Naveli Nanda has now reacted to a video that is going viral on social media. The video shows Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman defending a female journalist during a press conference, and Navya Nanda has now lauded the Finance Minister for calling out sexism.
The video, shared by The Quint on social media, shows Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman addressing questions from journalists at Budget 2021 press conference. As a female journalist was reprimanded for asking two questions instead of one, Nirmala Sitharaman defended the female journalist and instead questioned the person who had stopped the journalist from asking the question. She asked the colleague, “Why do you say that only to her? You didn't stop the guys.” This moment became the highlight of the press conference, and since then, the video has been going viral as many praised the Finance Minister for taking a stand and intervening.
Navya Naveli Nanda was also mighty impressed, and she took to her Instagram stories to share the video while writing about how we need more people in power to speak up and call out sexism. “Yaaaaassss- more people in power calling out the sexism that exists everyday,” wrote Navya.
