The iconic singer-composer Bappi Lahiri left for his heavenly abode on Tuesday night, February 15, 2022, at Mumbai's hospital in Juhu. The singer, known as the 'Disco King of Bollywood, died due to OSA (Obstructive Sleep Apnea) at the age of 69. Bappi Lahiri's last rites began on Thursday morning after his son Bappa Lahiri reached Mumbai from the US with his family. Besides family members and close relatives, several celebrities including, filmmaker Biswajit Chatterjee, Rani Mukerji's brother Raja and actor Sharbani Mukerjee paid their last respects to the singer at his funeral.
Several photos from the funeral have surfaced online, showing Bappi Lahiri’s family members heartbroken, His son Bappa is seen carrying his mortal remains, while daughter Reema Lahiri breaks down in tears. She is seen in an inconsolable state as her father's final journey begins. Bappi Lahiri's mortal remains are being taken in a flower-studded open truck so that his fans can do ‘antim darshan’. Scores of Bappi's ardent fans and industry friends have gathered to pay their last respects to the singer.
His last rites will be performed at Vile Parle crematorium in Mumbai.
Meanwhile, Dr. Deepak Namjoshi who was treating the singer told PTI, “Lahiri had been admitted to the hospital for a month and was discharged on Monday. But his health deteriorated on Tuesday and his family called for a doctor to visit their home. He was brought to the hospital. He had multiple health issues.
