Bengali Singer Sandhya Mukherjee Passes Away At 90 Due To Cardiac Arrest -Deets Inside
Iconic and legendary Bengali singer Sandhya Mukherjee died at the age of 90 on Tuesday evening following a heart attack. She was hospitalized on 27 and was recovering but after a prolonged battle, Mukherjee left for the heavenly abode on Tuesday. A senior official told PTI ,” She was put on vasopressor support earlier in the day as her blood pressure dropped. “She suffered a massive heart attack at around 7.30 PM following which she expired.


The singer was tested positive for Corona along with cardiac ailments, multi-organ dysfunction, and fracture in the femur bone due to a fall, she was rushed to SSKM hospital in Kolkata from her home.




Mamta Banerjee, West Bengal Chief Minister mourned her death and said that the death of the veteran singer is “irreparable loss” to the world. Her tweet reads, “Deeply saddened that Geetashree Sandhya Mukhopadhyay, the queen of melody in Bengal, is no more. Her departure creates an eternal void in our world of music and in the hearts of millions of her followers here and in the diaspora."


Sandhya Mukherjee made headlines when she refused to accept the Padma Shri award last month. Mukherjee had said that at this age, it would be demeaning for her to accept the award. A classical singer, Sandhya has worked with leading music directors from SD Burman, Naushad, Madan Mohan, and many more. West Bengal Government has also awarded the late singer with a state award, Banga Bibhushan in 2011.
