Paan Singh Tomar, Jolly LLB 2 and Peepli Live actor Sitaram Panchal has been diagnosed of lung and kidney cancer. While he was unable to make the necessary payments for his treatment, many from the film industry have come and stood by his side in this time of strife. Some of them are very popular names like producer Manish Mundra and Peepli Live director, Anusha Rizvi.

For those who've come in late, a few days back the 54-year old National School Of Drama pass-out became a national news after reports of him being unable to pay for his lung and kidney cancer treatment went viral. He had been diagnosed with the disease in 2014.
Talking about his health, Panchal's wife Uma spoke to a leading daily. She said, “He stopped eating completely last year as his stomach would hurt all the time. He was constantly vomiting and is extremely weak. He now weighs only 30 kg. Since acting was his only source of income, he worked between September-October last year when he was slightly better with medication, and shot for small roles in Tigmanshu Dhulia’s Raagdesh and Subhash Kapoor’s Jolly LLB 2. But the treatment has aggravated his diabetes, which led to him losing his voice,” Uma adds, pointing out that Sitaram was also administered wrong medicines a couple of times.

Industry friends who have rushed to the ailing actor’s aid are filmmaker Krishan Hooda, who had directed him in the yet-to-be-released Rebellious Flower, along with co-star Mukesh Bhatt, and Anil Mange, who worked with Sitaram in the Haryana-based film Ischool.
Manish Mundra has also made a considerable donation to the family. He has also promised to bear the medical expenses of Sitaram. Anusha Rizvi is trying to get aids for Sitaram from the government.

Panchal has featured in critically acclaimed films like Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire, Anusha Rizvi’s Peepli Live and Tigmanshu Dhulia’s Paan Singh Tomar. Even after the diagnosis, he filmed Shyam Benegal’s TV series, Samvidhan, while undergoing treatment at Mumbra.
Coming back, Uma also mentions that while several film personalities have come forward in support, it is Sitaram’s NSD batch mates who have relentlessly been by his side through the ordeal and continue to visit him even today.
