Deepika Padukone Opens Up About Her Struggle With Depression; Recalls How Her Mom Realised Her 'Cry Was Different And Wasn't Usual Boyfriend Issue'
Deepika Padukone is one of the most loved stars of Bollywood. The actress has always been quite vocal about her struggle with depression. She also always encourages others suffering from depression to seek profession help through her social media posts and more. And now, recently, during a clubhouse session, Deepika got candid as she recalled how she broke down and her mom Ujjala Padukone realised how the way she cried was different and it wasn't the usual boyfriend issue or stress at work.

Indian Express quoted her as saying in the Clubhouse session, "It basically started in February 2014...I felt empty, directionless and it just felt life had no meaning or purpose. I couldn’t feel anything physically or emotionally. I just felt this void... I felt this for days, weeks and months until one day my family was here and they were going back home and when they were packing their bags, I was sitting in their room and suddenly broke down. That’s when my mother realised for the first time that something was different. My cry was different. It wasn’t the usual boyfriend issue or stress at work."

Deepika added by saying, "She kept asking me is it this or that. I couldn’t pin point one specific reason. It was her experience and presence of mind that she encouraged me to seek help." She also said that she can see that she lived a particular life before depression and her life after having battled it is quite different. "“Even if you get regular sessions, it’s not simple. It’s a lot of work. I lived a particular life before depression and after that. It’s work every single day to not go back there," she added.

On the work front, she has interesting projects in the pipeline. She will be seen in 'Pathan' which also stars Shah Rukh Khan and John Abraham. She has signed Draupadi, Nag Ashwin's Pan-Indian next with Prabhas, '83, The Intern, and Fighter with Hrithik Roshan.
