Designer Sabyasachi Suggested Deepika Padukone Wear A Burqa When She Came For Wedding Outfit Trials For Her Ceremonies

Bollywood’s ace actress Deepika Padukone tied the knot with maverick actor Ranveer Singh in 2018 in Italy in the presence of her family and close ones. Followed by which the couple hosted 4 receptions in India that were graced by their industry colleagues and others from their social circle. Just to remind you the couple tied the knot in two lavish ceremonies- Sindhi as well as Konkani ceremony. For her wedding ceremonies, she wore outfits designed by ace designer Sabyasachi.
While she wore a red lehenga dressed by him, she draped a gold Kanchipuram silk sari also designed by him. The designer in conversation with Business of Fashion revealed how he suggested she wear a burqa while she came for the outfit trials. But Deepika replied if she wears a burqa she will definitely get papped. Also to keep everything under wraps, he had told his team that Naomi Campbell is tying the knot to an Indian Prince, as he did not want to reveal that the outfit he designed was for Dippy.
He said, “A few people from the Mumbai store (knew) because that's where Deepika used to come secretly for her measurements and I was terrified that there would be some press hanging somewhere there. We were terrified and I kept telling Deepika that 'come in a burqa' and Deepika said, 'if I come in a burqa that's when I will get spotted' A few more people who (were) helping her with measurements and everybody knew. But most people in my factory, because there are 1,800 people at work there, though it was Naomi Campbell getting married to an Indian prince.”
Revealing why he gave Deepika code name as Naomi Campbell he said, “The first thing that I told myself that I need a code word because of the fact that I was travelling all the time and to keep a secret for six months because you see when we do a bridal outfit there are a lot of people that work...I was like 'no way could I keep this a secret'. So I said okay fine 'we have to find a name we have to find a name'...and the first name that came out of my mouth was Naomi Campbell.
