Dhvani Bhanushali has been one of India’s youngest and most popular pop stars in recent years. Her songs like Vaaste, Leja Re, Nayan and Radha have found a connection with the audience and crossed several records on YouTube. Her song Vaaste also created a record of crossing one billion views on the platform, making Dhvani the youngest Indian to do so.
Recently, she released a new song, Mehendi, featuring Vishal Dadlani. It’s music video features Dhvani opposite Gurfateh Singh Pirzada. Until now, all Dhvani’s singles had been released under the T-Series label. However, a while ago, Dhvani’s father, Vinod Bhanushali, who served as the president at T-Series for about 27 years, left the label to venture out on his own. So, Mehendi marked Dhvani’s first single that she released independently under her YouTube channel.
Even on social media, she mentioned how it was a new step for her. Ask her if she felt any jitters before taking this plunge and she denies it. “It felt much free that I was getting to do what I wanted to do. It was a conscious decision to not release the song under a label. At the end of the day, you always have to ask someone and then you cannot do what you want to do. So, I don’t want to get any approval. Of course, I want to discuss, but someone else shouldn’t be making decisions for me. It’s important even for me as an artist. And I think the people who matter are with me,” she insists.
Ask her for an update on when her next single will be released and what it would be like, and Dhvani says excitedly, “It will come in November and it will be something very different from what I have done before. I love that song more than anything else that I have done so far.”
