Dibakar Banerjee On Detective Byomkesh Bakshy 2: ‘I Believe Sushant Singh Rajput Would Have Wanted’

YRF’s Detective Byomkesh Bakshy starring Sushant Singh Rajput was one of the most critically acclaimed films of 2015. Even though it did not set the box office on fire, late actor SSR gained immense appreciation for his performance from the critics as well as movie-buffs. After Kai Po Che, Sushant showcased his fine craft in Dibakar Banerjee’s mystery action film and soon found a spot in everyone’s heart. Well, in a recent interview with an online portal, filmmaker Dibakar Banerjee spoke about the possibility of Detective Byomkesh Bakshy 2. He said that the late Sushant Singh Rajput would have wanted to do the film.
“Making a sequel to Detective Byomkesh Bakshy is something that I have desired. I feel the story can be taken forward into a franchise. Of course, we'd have to cast another actor, but it is something I believe Sushant would have wanted,” Banerjee was quoted saying by BollywoodLife. Interestingly, earlier, after the release of the film, there were reports suggesting that a sequel with Rajput reprising the role of a detective was planned by the makers. However, it now won't happen after the tragic demise of Rajput.
Nevertheless, if the director is planning to take the story forward and turn it into a franchise, it would be interesting to see who he would cast as Detective Byomkesh Bakshy.
As of now, Banerjee has released another mystery film, Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar starring Parineeti Chopra and Arjun Kapoor. In another interview, Kapoor said that Dibakar can make a sequel that is broodier, edgier, and darker and he and Parineeti will come again for it as he felt that the director has a mind-blowing climax and knows how to masterfully design it.
