Alia Bhatt who turned a year older on March 15, 2021, is actually a British citizen. Yes. You read it right! The actress actually has roots from India as well as foreign, all thanks to her grandparents from both sides of the family. Without beating around the bush anymore, let’s get down to decoding it. Alia’s paternal grandfather Nanabhai Bhatt who belongs to Kathiawad region located in Gujarati, is a Hindu Nagar Brahmin, though he tied the knot to a lady, he was in a relationship with another woman, Shirin Mohammad Ali. Shirin is Alia’s father Mahesh Bhatt’s biological mother. Nanabhai and Shirin never tied the knot.

Moving on to her maternal side, her mother Soni Razdan’s mother Gertrude Hoelzer is a German who tied the knot to Soni’s father, who belonged to Kashmiri Pandit clan named Narendra Nath Razdan. The two fell in love when Alia’s maternal grandfather was pursuing architecture in London. Followed by their love story bloomed and Soni Razdan was born in Birmingham, United Kingdom. Later Soni Razdan came to India and settled down with Mahesh Bhatt. The couple was blessed with Alia and Shaheen Bhatt.
