Nadira, born into a Baghdadi Jewish family was one of the most successful actresses in Bollywood. She appeared in films from the 1950s and 1960s, including Aan, Shree 420, Pakeezah, Amar Akbar Anthony and Julie for which she won the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award. Nadira was the highest-paid actress during her career. But did you know Nadira was the first Indian actress to own a Rolls-Royce car in Bollywood? Yes, you read that right!

As per several media reports, the Yesteryear actress' first salary was just Rs. 1200 and with time it increased to Rs. 2500. Over the years, owing to her stardom and brilliant performances, she started earning well in the industry. There was a time when she started getting Rs. 3600 for films and back then this was a hefty price. Nadira lived her life in a royal way as her salary increased with time. Notably, she was the first actress in Bollywood to buy a Rolls Royce, which is considered the world’s first luxury car. After she bought the lavish wheels, a trend of buying swanky Rolls Royce started in the industry with many A-listers purchasing it. 


Nadira was widely known for playing temptress or vamp in the Hindi film industry.

Nadira, whose original name is Ezekiel, breathed her last on 9 February 2006, at the age of 73 at a hospital, in Mumbai. She died due to a prolonged illness. Reportedly, she suffered a cardiac arrest and was admitted to a hospital in a semi-comatose state. Nadira also had other health problems, including tubercular meningitis, alcoholic liver disorder, and paralysis.
