Dishoom Packs a Punch at the Ticket Windows

John Abraham, Varun Dhawan and Jacqueline Fernandez starrer Dishoom opened on a strong note yesterday. Despite average reviews, the Rohit Dhawan-directed film saw an occupancy of about 40% on Day One. The trade had predicted an opening of Rs 8-9 crore for the movie, which also marks the comeback of Akshaye Khanna. However, the masala entertainer exceeded trade expectations amassing over Rs 11 crore. With strong numbers on the first day, one can expect the box-office collections to grow over Saturday and Sunday.
What also works in the film’s favour is that it doesn’t really have to face stiff competition from any of its Bollywood releases. Last week’s release Madaari has failed to catch the audience’s fancy as did the release before that, Great Grand Masti.
If Dishoom continues a steady run at the box-office, Rohit Dhawan may have a lot to grin about whose last directorial outing Desi Boyz (2011) hadn’t exactly set the cash registers ringing.
