Dwayne DJ Bravo: I Want To Romance Jacqueline Or Deepika Onscreen
We have seen him perform on cricket grounds and now West Indian cricketer Dwayne DJ Bravo will be on our TV screens shaking a leg to Bollywood numbers. As he prepares for his debut on Jhalak Dikhla Jaa, we chat with the cricketer about his showbiz dreams. Excerpts from the conversation:

What brings you to the dance show?
Actually it's the makers of the show who got in touch with me and brought me to the show.

Now I know you are a good dancer, but are you aware of the Bollywood style of dancing?
I am aware of it. I see a lot of Bollywood dance videos. I am still trying to get into the perfect mould of it. It's difficult, but I am putting in a lot of practise, and am sure that it will help me better the performances.

If you had to pick an Indian cricketer for a dance-off, who would it be?
(Laughs) Virat Kohli is a good dancer. He is so cool, so natural when it comes to dancing. Then you have Ravindra Jadeja. I think all the young lot of players can dance well.

You recently did a dance number for Tum Bin 2. How was that experience?
It was really a good experience. It was a party song, a fun song in the night club. I got to learn a lot and meet new people, which was good. I really enjoyed it.

So any plans of graduating to acting from dancing?
I don't know anything for sure now. But yes, if the right opportunity comes my way, I would love to.

Which actress would you love to star opposite?
(Laughs) I don't know. All of them are so beautiful. If I have to pick one, maybe Jacqueline Fernandez. I have met her at a lot of times. I am a bit more comfortable around her. The others I know briefly, but overall Deepika Padukone has been my all time favourite. I have been seeing her for over 10 years now, and have always admired her work.

You have spent a lot of time in India, how different is your life here than in West Indies?

The people here are so different. No matter wherever I go in the world people know me, but am sure my biggest fan base is here in India.

What about your fans in your home town? How do they react to you participating in a reality show that too so far off from your country?

Obviously they are all happy for me. They all wish me best of luck. But the fans here are very different. When I am in West Indies, people see me on the streets, they might just call out my name like 'Hey Bravo' and walk away. But here in India fans mob you. I have seen so many celebrities getting surrounded by millions of people.

Talking about West Indies Cricket, you took a stand for your fellow cricketers and got ousted from the team for the same. That happened many years ago. Looking back do you think that was a great decision to make?
I stand by my decisions. I always take a stand for something that I truly believe in. Also, I believe that in life if one door closes, a new door opens up. So no regrets on that part.

You have now also become part of Bollywood gossip. Do you think that's a new door too?
(Bursts out laughing) You are talking about the news on Shriya right? (Laughs again). See that's what I was telling you. In my country the only time I am in news is when I do something in my field of work. Maybe after a cricket match or any of my songs or anything. But no one would be waiting outside a restaurant or a night club waiting to get a photo of me. But it's different here in India. Shriya and I are good friends. There is nothing more to it. (Laughs) And yeah, she is a beautiful girl.

This is a new pitch for you, we know you have great foot work, so how do you plan to sweep off competition?
You mean Jhalak competition right? (Laughs out loud thinking it was about Shriya) Yes, it's going to be a tough competition.

Whom among the judges in Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa do you like the most?
Jacqueline Fernandez.

You said you like Jacqueline, and you also said that Shriya is really beautiful. So if given an opportunity, which Bollywood actress would you like to take out on a date?
Nahi nahi nahi nahi (Speaks Hindi). Whoever wants to go out on a date with me, I'm ready. (Laughs)

How much of Hindi have you learnt?
Thoda thoda

I can't let you go without asking you about the hot debate surrounding the proposed ban on Pakistani actors in c. As an outsider, who loves Bollywood and cricket, what is your take on this Indo-Pak conflict?
I don't see any conflict. Whenever I have seen an India versus Pakistan match, it's one of the most entertaining matches. There is so much of adrenaline going on among the players, and all are there to play a good game of cricket. So I don't think there is any conflict there on the field. Other things, I don't know that much so I wouldn't like to comment on it.
