Gangubai Kathiawadi: Maharashtra Congress MLA Demands A Change In The Title Of Alia Bhatt Starrer - REPORTS
As per the latest reports, a Maharashtra Congress MLA has demanded that the the title of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's film Gangubai Kathiawadi starring Alia Bhatt should be changed

Just like Bajirao Mastani and Padmaavat, Sanjay Leela Bhansali's upcoming film Gangubai Kathiawadi starring Alia Bhatt in the lead role has fallen into a controversy ahead of the release. The film is based on a chapter from Hussain Zaidi's film Mafia Queens of Mumbai. Alia portrays the role of Gangubai Kathiawadi - one of the most powerful brothel madams of Kamathipura. Now, as per the latest updates, an MLA has demanded that the title of the film should be changed.
As reported by news agency PTI, Maharashtra Congress MLA Amin Patel has stated that the title maligns the name of Kathiawad city and thus it should be changed. At the State Assembly, Amin Patel said, "It is not the same like it was in 1950s. Women there are excelling in different professions. The film's title also maligns the name of Kathiawad city. The name of the film should be changed," as reported. The MLA has asked the state to intervene in the matter.
Earlier, the residents of Kamathipura had held a protest against the film stating that it misrepresents the area and is defamatory in nature. A statement that was released in media read, "The New Alia Bhatt Starrer Gangubai Kathiawadi, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, is a blatant misrepresentation and an attempt to malign the 200 years of actual history of Kamathipura. It is defamatory, shameful and has hurt the sentiments of the residents of Kamathipura. The residents have worked hard to erase the social stigma attached to the name of Kamathipura, and this movie is extremely damaging to the current and future generations of Kamathipura."
