Has Bollywood barring Sonam Kapoor forgotten Nutan?

Nutan Samarth-Behl, better known as Nutan, was born on June 4, 1936 to another legend of acting- the bold heroine Shobhana Samarth. Had she been alive today, she would have turned 80. She’s survived and remembered by her siblings Tanuja, Jaideep and Reshma, and her son Mohnish.

What surprises SpotboyE today is that when modern Indian cinema is all about strong women-oriented roles and movies, no heroine (and no hero too) except one- Sonam Kapoor- thought about posting her sentiments about the original flag-bearer of such portrayals.

Sonam remembers Nutan as a powerful actress. Besides, she reminisces about her as her father Anil Kapoor’s screen mother in one of his career’s most important and early hits, Meri Jung.

She took to Instagram and posted an image of hers, resembling Nutan from Bandini.

Along with the picture, came a heart-warming note: “
This was an ode to #nutan my favourite actress from the golden era of Indian cinema besides #Waheedaji.. It’s her birth anniversary today and I just want to say I’m grateful for the legacy she left behind through her brilliant work, Bandhini, Saraswati Chandra, Milan, Sujata, Meri Jung to name a few. You were the flag bearer for strong female roles...#flashback#nutan#hero#heroine

It doesn’t end with that note, though. The Neerja actress has even posted a video of the most intense moment in Meri Jung where Nutan regains her memory after 20 years.

Most heroines of today claim to be driven about strong, edgy roles! Where are they? Too busy enjoying the weekend? Thumbs up, Sonam!
