HIJAB ROW: Zaira Wasim Says, ‘I Resent, Resist System Where Women Are Being Stopped And Harassed For Merely Carrying Out Religious Commitment’
Dangal fame actress Zaira Wasim who decided to quit her acting career after ‘The Sky Is Pink’ has spoken about the ongoing Hijab controversy- that is raging in the country. After Swara Bhasker, Javed Akhtar and Sonam Kapoor, Zaira has condemned the entire system for banning Hijab. The former actress took to her social media handle and penned a lengthy note where she criticized the system for ‘harassing women to carry out their religious sentiments.’

Taking to her Twitter account, she posted a hard-hitting post that read, “The inherited notion of hijab being a choice is an ill-informed one. It's often either a construct of convenience or ignorance. Hijab isn't a choice but an obligation in Islam. Likewise, a woman who wears the hijab is fulfilling an obligation enjoined upon her by the God she loves and has submitted herself to.” ALSO READ:Zaira Wasim Requests Fan Pages To DELETE Her Pictures As She Is Starting A New Chapter In Her Life; Say: 'Could Really Benefit From Your Cooperation'

Continuing her post, Zaira further added, “I, as a woman who wears the hijab with gratitude and humility, resent and resist this entire system where women are being stopped and harassed for merely carrying out a religious commitment. Stacking this bias against Muslim women and setting up systems where they should have to decide between education and hijab or to give up either is an absolute injustice.”

Zaira concluded her post by saying, “What is this if not a bias with people who confirm it acting in support of it? On top of all this, building a facade that all this is being done in the name of empowerment is even worse when it is quite exactly the opposite of that. Sad.”

For the uninitiated, it all started at the beginning of January when at the Muslim Government College, a few female students were forbidden from entering the college wearing Hijab which leads to protests and unrest in the country.
