Before gracing the big screen, Himansh Kohli started off his journey in showbiz with Channel V’s youth show Humse Hai Life. From there, he went on to make a big jump to the big screen with Divya Khosla Kumar’s directorial debut, Yaariyan, in 2014, which emerged as a surprise success that year. Since then, it has been seven years but Himansh has had a slow journey in the industry and the actor explains why.
“It was a conscious choice to select the right project. It really mattered who was making it and who’s the director and the script. The projects that were being offered to me, were not making me excited and there was nothing substantial in them. I was eventually calculating if there was any weaker section in those projects. If there was something I could correct myself, I would go forward with it as it was all about believing in people. Someone believed in me a few years ago and that’s how I came here. You have to believe in newcomers and give them chances. That’s how the cycle should be,” Himansh asserts, adding that it was due to his choices that he is still getting work. “I have survived in this industry for so long and people have started taking me seriously. A lot of projects are being offered to me right now, and I am thankful for them but there are responsibilities on me as well.”
Himansh goes on to elaborate on the responsibilities that he feels he has to take care of. “As an artist, it’s my responsibility to maintain the trust of my audience and make sure that my next project should be something that they are excited about. In my journey, there have been lesser films than a lot of people in the industry, but I have had my own experiences, success and failures and I have reverted from that,” he shares.
The actor goes on to say that it is all about picking up the right films and he has a few of them along the way already. “I have a clear direction and knowledge of what I want to do now than what I had a few years ago when I was just exploring the industry. I am looking forward to working with big producers from the industry as I know that it matters. You get to see the true potential of an actor only with the right team. It is a fair choice to skip a few projects if you don’t feel they are right for you,” Himansh concludes.
