International Dance Day 2021: Daisy Shah Says, ‘If There Is Some Music, My Feet Automatically Start Tapping’-EXCLUSIVE
Daisy Shah might be an actress today, but her journey in showbiz started as an assistant choreographer for Ganesh Acharya. On the occasion of International Dance Day today, the actress talks about the value that dance holds in her life. “Dance has always been a stress buster for me. The only reason I didn’t take choreography up as a profession is because I can’t mix dance with brain. For me, these are two separate things,” she laughs, adding that dance possesses the capability to change her mood at any time. “I enjoy dancing and it always put me in a very good mood irrespective of what I am going through. If there is some music, my feet automatically start tapping. Me and my music get in a different zone,” she asserts.

Daisy insists that her love for dancing also helped her get through the tough times of Covid as well. “In lockdown, people are now getting bored of TV and phones, but I personally feel music is something you can never get bored of. There is so much different kind of music that it can never get monotonous,” she says.

The actress shares the origin of her fascination with dance as well. “I have been dancing since my school days. I was always a part of extra-curricular activities and inter school dance competitions. That’s how the interest originated and continued from there on,” Daisy shares, pointing out that dance never got in between her education. “I realised that studies were equally important but you need one kind of skill that can actually get out of your personality. The profession I am in today, mathematics, biology or chemistry won’t help me but dance would. Sometimes parents put too much pressure on studies but they don’t realise that their kid might be good at something else and can have a career in that.”

Speaking of parents, do her parents dance too? “My parents have two left feet with no knowledge of dance, so I don’t know where my skills came from. I wouldn’t say I was born with it but I got better at it with practise,” she responds.

Ask Daisy how dancing helped her career in Bollywood and she shares that if you are into movies, you need to know dancing. “Bollywood is incomplete without song and dance. And if you dance, it means your soul is open for anything.  It’s not just your body that is feeling everything but also your soul. It helps you emote better and makes you a better actor. Acting is not just what you do with your face,” she maintains.

So, does she have any dance icons? “None, to be honest. I would rather follow a street dancer as they would have their unique style. And when I said my parents have two left feet when it comes to dance, it was maybe their style of dance. What’s beautiful about this art is that everyone has a different style, someone is good at jazz and someone might be good at Ganpati dance. I have danced with Salman Khan and his dance is all about swag. That is his kind of dance. I have never seen anyone get away with the kind of chartbusters he gives,” Daisy asserts, adding that it’s all about confidence. “The simplest of the steps could look amazing if the performer has the confidence to put it out,” she concludes.
