Talking about the remake, Coolie No. 1 is going to be an adaptation of Govinda and Karisma Kapoor starrer. The film will be directed by Varun's father and filmmaker David Dhawan, who has also helmed the original version of the flick. While the makers made the official announcement of the film on Varun’s birthday (April 24), they have also revealed the first look along with its release date, May 1, 2020.

Earlier, in a media interaction, Varun had revealed why he wanted to do the new version of Coolie No. 1. He had said, “Why I wanted to do this film is because when I watched Coolie No 1, I was so entertained. I had such a good time watching it. It is a family film. It is one of the funniest and most entertaining films I have ever watched. It has an amazing screenplay and starred brilliant actors. We are adapting it. It is not a remake.”
