Esha Gupta and Sonal Chauhan have been brought on board and they will essay
Arjun and Sonu’s love interests respectively.

Says a source,
“Sonal is a Rajput in real life and will incidentally play a Rajput girl in the
film too. The makers were certain that with her elegance, she would fit the
bill.”
Adds the source,
“While Sonal has already joined the team and is currently filming her part,
Esha will leave for Punjab today.”

Meanwhile, Abhishek
Bachchan and Suniel Shetty were initially part of Paltan but later bowed out of
the project.
At that point of
time, talking of Jr Bachchan’s exit from the venture, producer Nidhi Dutta of
JP Films had said, "Abhishek Bachchan is no longer part of Paltan for
personal reasons best known to him. It has come as a shock to us as this
happened less than 24 hours before our unit left to shoot in Ladakh. But we
also believe that especially in the movies we make it's the soldiers sitting up
there that choose who will play them and recreate their lives on screen.
Nevertheless, we wish him luck with his future endeavours.

JP Dutta’s Border
(1997) has achieved a cult status with its music enough to give you goosebumps
even today. However, the filmmaker has had an unfavourable run post that with
films such as Refugee, LOC Kargil and Umraao Jaan failing to make an impact at
the box-office.
With Paltan, he
is back with a war drama (which is his forte) and we wouldn’t be surprised if he makes a statement
with this one.
