Javed Akhtar Lashes Out At Shekhar Kapur, Asks Him To See A Good Psychiatrist

A few days ago, forty nine prominent celebrities including Bollywood celebs like Anurag Kashyap, Aparna Sen, Adoor Gopalakrishnan, Mani Ratnam and Konkona Sen Sharma, wrote an open letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressing their concerns over the growing cases of lynching in India. Days after that happened, other 61 celebs hit back at them, calling their open letter an account of false narratives, selective outrage and a clear political bias. Among the 61 celebrities were well known names like Kangana Ranaut, Prasoon Joshi and more.

Now, in a recent Tweet posted by filmmaker Shekhar Kapur, he wrote that he was always in fear of intellectuals. The filmmaker wrote, “Started life as refugee of Partition. Parents gave everything to make a life for kids. Was always in fear of intellectuals’. They made me feel insignicant. Small. Then suddenly embraced me after my films. I still fear them. Their embrace is like a bite of snake. Still a refugee." This tweet was not received well by lyricist Javed Akhtar and he lashed out at Shekhar Kapur in a series of tweets and even asked him to go meet a good psychiatrist. Javed Akhtar wrote, “Who are these intellectuals who embraced you and you found that embrace like a snake’s bite ? Shyam Benegal , Adoor Gopal Krishna , Ram chandra Guha ? Really ? . Shekhar saheb you are not well . You need help . Come on , there is no shame in meeting a good psychiatrist."

You introduce yourself as neither prejudiced by the past nor afraid of the future living in this moment and in the same breath you say you are a refugee of partition and still a refugee . One doesn’t need a magnifying glass to see the contradiction .

Recently , Anurag Kashyap received a death threat on Twitter,as a reaction to him being one of the celebs who wrote the letter to the PM. Kashyap forwarded the death threat to Mumbai Police and the latter came to the rescue almost instantly.
