JIO MAMI 18TH FILM FESTIVAL: Rajkumar Hirani Left Teary Eyed After Watching Priyanka Chopra's Ventilator

Stars from Bollywood and Marathi film industry thronged to the city suburbs last evening to attend the premiere of Priyanka Chopra's debut Marathi production venture, Ventilator. The film, which was screened as part of the ongoing Jio MAMI 18th Film Festival, saw bigwigs such as Rajkumar Hirani, Ashutosh Gowariker, Jitendra Joshi, Sulabha Arya, Sukanya Kulkarni, Viju Khote, Satish Aalekar, Deepak Shirke among others in attendance.

While Priyanka couldn’t attend the event, her mother Madhu Chopra made up for her absence. Just as director Rajesh Mapuskar began introducing the film to a jam packed theatre, I was lucky enough to grab a seat right beside Rajkumar Hirani.

The movie commenced and was a fun-filled ride up till the intermission; everyone was laughing their guts out. However, a little into the second half and emotional side of the project began trickling in. By the climax, there wasn’t one dry eye in the theatre. Curious, I looked sideways and the sight left me speechless. Rajkumar Hirani was teary eyed.

But, the filmmaker was quick enough to regain his composure before leaving the theatre.

To talk of the two cameos, both Priyanka Chopra and Boman Irani, perfectly fit their parts, and why not? They were in their comfort zones here. While Priyanka played herself, Boman as the doctor made for some good laughs.

Ventilator revolves around an ailing senior member of a family who is put on ventilator days before Ganpati festival leading to speculation and panic among the family. The film hits the theatres on November 4.
