When Karan Johar was asked about scrapping Section 377 and how he felt on the day the verdict was passed, he said that he cried for the community and was glad that it was accepted legally.

September 6, 2018, was indeed a historic moment when the Supreme Court restored a landmark judgement which had decriminalised homosexuality and abolishment of Section 377. The move immediately was hailed not only by the minority LGBT community but also the whole nation. Even Bollywood celebs came forward to express their happiness on the same. After the judgement was passed, a proud Karan Johar even took to his Twitter handle to express his happiness and gave huge thumbs up for humanity and equal rights. 

He tweeted, "Historical judgment!!!! So proud today! Decriminalising homosexuality and abolishing #Section377 is a huge thumbs up for humanity and equal rights! The country gets its oxygen back!" However, in a recent event, when the filmmaker was asked about the same and how he felt on the day the verdict was passed, he said that he cried for the community and said that he was glad that it was accepted legally.


Speaking at the event, Karan Johar said, "I woke up and cried that day. I cried for the community. I cried that there was freedom. It was a historic moment. I was just glad that it was accepted legally. That particular day, ironically, was my father's birthday. I felt the freedom that day."
