Karan Johar Plans On Crediting His Female Leads As Producers In Films In Future; His Way Of Tackling Pay Disparity In The Industry

The issue of pay disparity has been prevalent in the film industry since ages, wherein several actresses continue getting paid less than the male leads. So, at the trailer launch of Good Newwz, producer Karan Johar was asked to address it and here's what he had to say

The trailer launch of Good Newwz turned out to be an interesting event what with the team’s witty answers. When there is Karan Johar in the house, once does expect some quirky replies because the man can never give you a boring reply.

Amidst loads of topics, one that was addressed at the event was about the issue of pay disparity in the film industry which is still prevalent as most actresses are paid lesser than their male counterparts. When film producer Karan was asked about the same, he said he's looking into it.


Karan stated that just like the way our male actors turn producers on the films they are working most of the time, similarly he would try to make his female actors also turn co-producer on a project so that they get to share the profit which automatically ups their remuneration. 

Good Newwz team was asked that what's the real definition of good news and Karan Johar candidly replied, "Good news to me is when stars will start charging me less/lesser." and then added in his inimitable style, "Akshay ne yeh good news nahi sunai hai mujhe abhi tak."

Furthermore, KJo also revealed how he had gone to Akshay with the script of some other project, instead of Good Newwz but during their discussion, Akki seemed more keen on the concept of Good Newwz rather than the biggie and that’s how he came onboard.
