Kirti Kulhari On Doing Masala Films: ‘We Have Enough People To Do That, But Not Enough People To Do What I Do’-EXCLUSIVE
Today, Kirti Kulhari is known for the kind of intense roles and films she chooses, from portraying a girl being questioned for her relationship with an older man in the courtroom drama Pink, also featuring Amitabh Bachchan and Taapsee Pannu, or playing the former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in Madhur Bhandarkar’s Indu Sarkar. She was also recently seen in Shaadisthan as an independent woman living life on her own terms.

Even in the commercial space, she has chosen to be a part of films where her role is still considerably rooted in reality and facing issues of her own. Be it playing a scientist in Mission Mangal who is struggling to find a place to live due to her religion, amidst a plethora of stars including Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan, Taapsee or Sonakshi Sinha, or be it her portrayal of a no-nonsense lawyer, trying to make it as an independent mother in the series Four More Shots Please!, all her roles have had some depth to them. However, what many people forget is that Kirti actually started her journey in Hindi films with a typical Hindi masala comedy film, Khichdi: The Movie. She was seen as the naïve, innocent and dumb Parminder in the film adaptation of the TV series Khichdi. She was paired opposite JD Majethia, who was also the producer of the movie. But such roles seem so distant in her repertoire now. ALSO READ: Kirti Kulhari: 'I Don't Think I Will Marry Again'- EXCLUSIVE

Ask Kirti if she would be open to getting back to such movies or doing such Hindi masala potboilers, and pat comes the reply, “We have enough people to do commercial potboilers, but not enough people to do what I do. So, I think let me handle the kind of cinema I do and others can take care of that side.”
