Lalitha Lajmi Reveals Aamir Khan, Alia Bhatt And Soni Razdan Paid For Her Daughter, Kalpana Lajmi's Treatment When She Was Fighting For Life
Veteran artiste Lalitha Lajmi opens up about her daughter, acclaimed filmmaker Kalpana Lajmi's treatment.
Filmmaker Kalpana Lajmi passed away on September 23, 2018 after a period of prolonged illness. Kalpana had to undergo regular dialysis after she fought cancer of the kidneys and a severe case of Urinary Tract Infection (UTI). Today, on her third death anniversary, her mother Lalitha Lajmi has opened up about her daughter's life. The veteran artiste revealed that during her daughter's difficult period, she received help from actors Alia Bhatt, her mother Soni Razdan and Aamir Khan.
Speaking to Pinkvilla, she said, "She [Kalpana Lajmi] had to undergo regular dialysis. Aamir Khan was the first person to offer help. He sent cheques directly into her account. Some other directors also contributed. Soni Razdan and Alia Bhatt paid for her dialysis till the very end. They were extremely close to Kalpana. In fact, Alia was born in front of her. I am deeply grateful to all those who helped. There were other expenses, too. Thankfully, her medical insurance was of great help."
Back in November 2017, Kalpana had thanked B-town celebs for helping her out. She revealed that many including Indian Film and Television Directors' Association, Rohit Shetty, Karan Johar, Salman Khan, and Neena Gupta came forward and helped her during her worst time. "I am thankful to my film fraternity for standing by me in this phase. Especially my mother, my brother and Shyam Benegal for their constant support," she had told PTI.
Kalpana Lajmi was notably in a relationship with music maestro Bhupen Hazarika. Talking about her daughter's relationship, Lalitha Lajmi said that while she did not mind Kalpana being in a live-in relationship with Hazarika, she minded their age gap. Furthermore, she said, "I miss her terribly. I don't know how to express it, I have been crying for years."
