A while ago, it was officially announced that Regé-Jean Page who played the charming and desirable, the Duke of Hastings aka Simon Bassett in Netflix's erotic period romance, Bridgeton will not reprise his role in the second season. This news nearly broke everyone’s heart as they couldn’t believe he will not return to the show, however, for some fans, it did not come as a surprise as they know the character’s storyline in the Julia Quinn novels on which the series is based. Nevertheless, Shahid Kapoor’s wife Mira Rajput recently found out that Page is no more associated with the show and she seemed to be heartbroken.
She took to her Instagram stories to share the note of Lady Whistledown and exclaimed, ‘WHY’. For the unversed, the note read, “Dear Readers, while all eyes turn to Lord Anthony Bridgerton’s quest to find a Viscountess, we bid adieu to Regé-Jean Page, who so triumphantly played the Duke of Hastings. We’ll miss Simon’s presence onscreen, but he will always be a part of the Bridgerton family. Daphne will remain a devoted wife and sister, helping her brother navigate the upcoming social season and what it has to offer – more intrigue and romance than my readers may be able to bear.” Meanwhile, after this official note was shared, Page also posted a picture from the sets of Bridgeton while calling his experience on the series, “The ride of a lifetime.”
The photo caption read, “It’s been an absolute pleasure and a privilege to be your Duke. Joining this family - not just on-screen, but off-screen too. Our incredibly creative and generous cast, crew, outstanding fans - it’s all been beyond anything I could have imagined. The love is real and will just keep growing.”
