The coronavirus pandemic has turned out to be a huge bummer for most of our plans for 2020. Sadly, it also includes going to theatres to watch films. Well, as a consequence of the same, several Bollywood films are now directly releasing on OTT platforms. Gulabo Sitabo, Shakuntala Devi, Khuda Haafiz and Dil Bechara are among many examples. Veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah, however, is curious to know whether the viewers will react to a commercial Salman Khan film at home, the same way they do in theatres. As per him, a Salman Khan film opens to whistles, claps and coins while in the cinema halls; however, it's doubtful if people watching it on OTT will have a similar reaction.
During a conversation with Rajeev Masand on his roundtable, he expressed his doubts if Salman Khan fans would still enjoy watching masala entertainers while at home. "It will be interesting to see what will be the reaction of the audience to a Salman Khan film, the audience that whistles and claps and throws coins at the screen and dances in the aisles... What’ll be their reaction when they watch a movie like that at home, alone, or with their children? Will they behave in the same way? I doubt it," said Shah.
He added, "This lockdown has inspired so many young filmmakers to attempt interesting, novel subjects without worrying about a producer sitting on their heads asking ‘hero kaun hai’ or ‘gaana daal do’ or do all this crap. I’m optimistic about the future, and really glad that the monstrous Rs 500 crore budget might be a thing of the past.”
Oh the work front, Naseeruddin Shah was recently seen in Amazon Prime Video's musical web series, Bandish Bandits. His upcoming appearance is in a Zee5 film titled Mee Raqsam.
