Neeraj was critically ill since a long time and was admitted in CritiCare Hospital, Juhu. He had been in a coma and was staying at Firoz Nadiadwala’s Juhu bungalow, Barkat. Nadiadwala was taking full care of his nursing and medical expenses. When his condition deteriorated on the night of December 13, he was taken to the hospital, where he breathed his last at 3 am.

Last year, the filmmaker suffered a massive brain stroke after which his health kept deteriorating.

Neeraj, who has acted in several films such as Rangeela (1995), Mann (1999) and Bol Bachchan (2012) among others and helmed Khiladi 420 (2000) and Phir Hera Pheri (2006), was admitted to a leading Delhi hospital in October last year and was battling for life since then. May his soul rest in peace.
