Nutan's Grand-Daughter Pranutan Bahl On Tackling Trolls On Nepotism: ‘Our Kindness Is Taken For Granted But At Least I Sleep Well At Night’-EXCLUSIVE
Pranutan Bahl, who is Nutan’s granddaughter and Mohnish Bahl’s daughter, talks about tackling the label of nepotism
Pranutan Bahl made her debut in films in 2019 with Salman Khan’s Notebook opposite another debutante Zaheer Iqbal. The actress comes from a family of film people. Her grandmother was yesteryear superstar, Nutan and her father, Mohnish Bahl, was one of the most successful actors in the ’90s. However, even Salman didn’t know about her connection to his on-screen elder brother until she was already signed for the film.
Although, it isn’t surprising that a lot of times her name is dragged in the debate around nepotism, especially in the times when there has been a lot of negative perception attached to it since Sushant Singh Rajput’s untimely demise last year.
Ask Pranutan if making a debut in such times, has the tag of being Mohnish Bahl’s daughter helped her more or held her back, she responds, “I wouldn’t know because I haven’t taken any help or have gotten deterred by it. So, I can’t say if it has helped me or held me back,” she asserts.
Pranutan goes on to insist that she has learnt to ignore such futile discussions. “I haven’t taken any of that seriously or tapped the help that comes with being from a film family. I haven’t gotten demotivated by the nonsense that is said on social media. I just bury my head in my work and I do it diligently. I know there will be thousands of naysayers and people who would want to pull you down, but the only one who knows what’s going on in your life is you,” she maintains.
The actress says that you can’t be replying to every such comment and accusation. “As a public figure especially, you cannot sit and back answer every single person who thinks you are in the industry because of your father. If someone thinks so, it’s up to them, it’s their opinion. I know that I have been auditioning since 2016 constantly without giving my father’s name or asking him to drop a message in my favour to the makers till date,” she points out.
Pranutan also insists that no one has the right to question her choices. “I don’t understand who are these people to judge if I have chosen this path. It’s very easy to turn around and say nonsense about people. I think all of us are gracious and kind that we chose not to fall into the mud like a lot of the trolls. And unfortunately, our kindness is taken for granted. But it’s okay, at least I sleep well at night.”
