Postpone Dear Zindagi, Kahaani 2, Befikre And Dangal, Appeals Pahlaj Nihalani
We all know that demonetization has had a huge impact on the business of all sectors. Movie business has nit been an exception. Not that the films were great- but Rock On 2 and Force 2 which released post demonetization, have definitely borne its brunt

Censor Board Chief Pahlaj Nihalani has appealed to the filmmakers to postpone the release of their films. The big movies slated to release in the coming months are-Dear Zindagi (Nov 25), Kahaani 2 (December 2), Befikre (December 9) and Dangal (December 23).

In the appeal made by Pahlaj Nihalani in a trade magazine, he says, “After cash resources dried up, particularly since 10th November, it has been noted most of the recent ticket bookings for cinema at multiplexes are being made via online platforms. However, since a very small amount of the cinema patrons have been using online ticketing platforms for buying cinema tickets, sales via online ticketing sites do not account for more than 20-30 per of capacities in multiplexes.

“In single screen theatres where attendance is most dependant on cash sales, the daily gross collections have reduced drastically," he adds.

Concluding his long appeal, Pahlaj Nihalani has asked the filmmakers to wait for the currency situation to return to stability and for liquidity to return to the economy before the industry expects their movies to be watched and appreciated by the audiences.

But is it easy for the makers in question to do what Pahlaj is advising?

A source says, "A lot of money will be required to keep the publicity going till the next release date. Pahlaj's advice is easier said than done."

Let's wait and watch how the industry reacts to the Censor Chief's appeal.
