Prateik Babbar Opens Up On His Battle With Alcohol And Drugs Addiction; 'One Day Will Make My Mamma Proud’
In an interview, Prateik Babbar opened up on his battle with alcohol and drugs addiction. The actor said he wants to live up to the name of his mother late Smita Patil, one of the greatest actors of Indian cinema and make her proud
Late legendary actress Smita Patil’s son Prateik Babbar marked his debut in Bollywood in 2008. He started acting in Hindi films with Jaane Tu...Ya Jaane Na. Now, the actor is finally rearing to hit back with a bang with films like Mumbai Saga, Brahmastra, India Lockdown and Bachchan Pandey in the pipeline. In an interview, Prateik Babbar opened up on his battle with alcohol and drugs addiction. The actor said he wants to live up to the name of his mother late Smita Patil.
Speaking with the Times of India, Prateik Babbar spoke about his fight with addictions and confessed he went clean of alcohol and drugs for a few months in 2016-2017. He said, "It must have been 2016-17 when I went clean of alcohol and drugs for a few months in a row. I could think with a clear head.” The actor mentioned he started missing his work back then. He shared it was what his soul needed and so he started picking different kinds of roles, some without payments as well. He shared he rebooted himself with plays and short films. Babbar added, “I did things for free for people to just remember that I exist and I haven’t left the stage yet. I had to test the waters again. Once I did that, there was no looking back. One show, one movie led to another with Mulk (2018), Baaghi 2 (2018) and Chhichhore (2019). It was gradual."
The Mulk actor spoke about his late mother Smita Patil, one of the greatest actors of Indian cinema and revealed he wants to make her proud. Prateik said, “I do feel a sense of responsibility to live up to my mother’s legacy. People may see that as a burden, but I will not call it that. If it’s seen as a weight on my shoulders, I’d say it’s one that I am proud of. I will carry it till my last breath with absolute pride.” Talking about his mother, Babbar said, “My mother was a magical woman, who did magical things in a short-lived career and life. She touched way too many people and she is a part of our country’s cinema heritage.” He mentioned he is honoured and fortunate to be her son. And, Prateik concluded saying, “It will be an honour to be able to live up to her name, and if I can be a little reflection of her."
Meanwhile, Prateik is late Smita Patil and Raj Babbar’s son. He was born on November 28, 1986. During the interview, Babbar also opened up about his journey so far, and he said he started chasing it again about two-three years back. He also mentioned that it’s been a rocky road for him, but he is looking forward to a brighter future.
