Mary Kom made us proud, yet again. The boxer, who will turn 35 on November 25, won the gold medal in the Asian Boxing Championships in the Light Flyweight category yesterday. She defeated DPR Korea’s Kim Hyang Mi in the final bout 5-0 by unanimous judges’ decision.

Bollywood stars such as Amitabh Bachchan, Priyanka Chopra, Randeep Hooda, Farhan Akhtar took to social media to congratulate Mary on her achievement.

Bachchan wrote, “T 2705 - Mary Kom wins Asian Boxing Championships GOLD ... she has done it again !! what a CHAMPION !! GOLDEN GLOVES !!


Priyanka Chopra, who played Mary Kom in Omung Kumar’s film of the same name, took to Twitter to write, “Amazing news to wake up to! Congrats @mangtec!I know the struggles uve been through..I’m so so proud of you!India’s Daughter!always a winner.”

Farhan’s post read, “Congratulations to a true champion @MangteC on winning her 5th Gold medal at the#AsianBoxingChampionships .. super achievement (sic).”


Anil Kapoor said, “Congratulations champion @MangteC on the gold! Your sportsmanship is an inspiration for us all!#AsianBoxingChampionships #MaryKom (sic).”

Noted lyricist Javed Akhtar simply wrote, “HAIL MARY KOM”


Finally, Randeep Hooda too congratulated Mary Kom with an inspirational message about athletes. He said, “The thing to celebrate about champions is the ability to keep bouncing back with that never say die spirit.. Congratulations to Mary Kom@MangteC #champ #India #AsianBoxingChampionship #Gold (sic).”
